Don Hunton is a musician who blends the genres of surf rock and black metal by exploiting the similarities between the two. When he approached me to work on his debut EP, we decided to take the core values of his approach to music and integrate them into the format itself. We produced a series of 10 'record books' using lathe-cutting techniques that allowed audio-grooves to be cut into a special cardboard, which would break down a little more every time the record was played.
To accompany this, we produced a music video taking influence from the lore surrounding both surf-rock and black metal, while attempting to avoid the clichés often used in both genres. This ended up with a trip to Formby Beach in the middle of January, and a video exploring a cultish found footage aesthetic.
